AWARDS

Members of Michael Gaißmair can earn medals and other awards by participating in patrol, battle and training weekends.

Medals can be awarded on participation basis, some on other grounds. This page contains the official awards of our unit.
Some other awards may and can be used and some not pictured here can even be awarded to unit members, but these
decisions and awards come from HQ and from HQ only. If in doubt, ask.

Awards from former military service will be converted to German medals to a certain extent, unit commander and authenticity officer have the final word on such situation.


Members receiving an award are required to purchase the award themselves, award documents come from unit HQ.


AWARDS FOR PARTICIPATION

Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen
Infantry assault badge

Infantry assault badge can be awarded to a member who has taken part in five (5) different weekend happenings, either patrol, battle or training weekend.

Allgemeine Sturmabzeichen
General assault badge

General assault badge award criteria is the same as Infantry badge. This badge can be awarded to members who are not eligible to Infantry badge, ie Pioniere.

 

AWARDS FOR BRAVERY

Eiserne Kreuz 2. Klasse
Iron Cross Second Class

Iron Cross Second Class can be awarded for enthusiasm, activity and commitment to unit to a member who has taken part in at least ten (10) weekend events. Award must be recommended by another unit member.

Eiserne Kreuz 1. Klasse
Iron Cross First Class

Iron Cross First Class can be awarded to a member who has exceeded the Second Class criteria at least three times and has organized at least 15 weekend events.

Ritterkreuz des Eisernes Kreuzes
Knights Cross of the Iron Cross

Knights Cross is awarded to a member of the unit who saves the life of another unit member in a case of emergency and is already holder of Second and First Class Iron Crosses.



AWARDS FOR COMMITMENT AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS

           

Kriegsverdienstmedaille
War Merit Medal

War Merit medal can be awarded to unit member who has helped to
improve the unit in a way that is not directly related to any military-like deed and/or action.

Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwerten
War Merit Cross Second Class with Swords

War Merit Cross can be awarded to unit member on same criteria as War Merit Medal,
but based on military-related deeds and actions.



AWARDS FOR BATTLEFIELD WOUNDS

Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz
Wound Badge in Black

Unit member can be awarded the Wound Badge for a battle wound that needs medical help, such as stitches or frostbite.

Wound Badge criteria goes as follows:
1-2 wounds: Black Wound Badge
3-4 wounds or one larger one: Silver Wound Badge
5 or more wounds or one major one, such as compound fracture: Gold Wound Badge
If injury occurs when soldier is drunk no award will follow!

 

SPECIAL AWARDS

This medal was originally awarded to all unit members who took part in "Camp III" battle in Degerö, late 2005. Medal can be awarded to a member who has taken part in a scenario which caused him serious freezing and other winter-related headache as well at least a mild frostbite.
Close Combat Clasp can be awarded to unit member who has participated in at least ten (10) scenarios where we have another re-enactor group playing the part of enemy and has fought this enemy in hand-to-hand combat.
Technically not an award, SS Bergführer badge can be worn by unit member who is capable of orientating in forest and also a seasoned Lapland visitor. Award is made by unit commander, only two members of the group can have the badge.

Can be worn if approved by HQ

German Horseman's Badge

Can be worn if approved by HQ and the wearer knows how to harness a horse and can ride a horse

Sudetenland Medal with Prague Castle Bar

Awarded in early 2011 to all original unit members who were present in our first re-enactment weekend in early 2006
