UNTERNEHMEN MAIBAUM - March to "Mauser Hill"

Members of "Michael Gaißmair" gathered to our summer training area in mid-May to start summer re-enacting season 2011
by marching to Mauser Hill and back.

The traditional march is about 7km long and goes via "Rudi-Weg" supply road and through dense forest and over rocky cliffs.

March is required to be carried out with full patrol gear, ie personal weapon, backpack with camping equipment and so on.
This year we also field-tested a lighter way to carry blanket etc - by rolling them as a Russian-type roll over one shoulder; this way
of carrying equipment did see quite a lot of use in "Nord" and can be verified from period photos.

Another Gebirgsjäger on guard, note mountain boots with heavy nails!

Ready to go! Backpacks ready and guns loaded.

Russian positions demolished by Sturmpioniere? Note blanket roll.

Heavy rain the previous night had caused ditches to flood. Pioniere were called into action to build makeshift bridge.

Bridge project almost completed

Patrol on Rudi-Weg

Young SS Gebirgsjäger; note "Styrian gaiters" and blanket roll

Russian soldiers obviously don't clean their mess - remains of a campfire have been found
