WINTER TRAINING 2011

Our traditional winter training happening was arranged for the third time in a row. As in previous years the
focus was in winter survival skills such as shelter building and making a campfire.
Military training was not forgotten either, and we also had a great "Kameradenschaftabend" where
re-enactors across Europe portrayed Finnish and German troops and had a great party together.

Saturday began as quite cold day, temperature was -33°C, but luckily sun warmed the day up.
After warm porridge it was time to start training. SS-Junker Rademacher adresses his Zug.

Main points of safe weapon handling were discussed with great care.
Here the troops are being presented a Suomi M/31 sub-machinegun.

Whilst one Zug was doing tactical training two other Züge headed to forest under guidance of Hauptmann Viiri.
He was responsible for survival training that contained fire- and shelter building.

When one as only one box of matches and pile of frozen branches it's not that easy to lit a fire..

..but not completly impossible either. Finnish troops with veteran Gebirgsjäger warming by the fire.

Shelter building underway

And slowly but steadily the "laavu" shelter gets ready!

Dry food rations waiting for troops to return from forest.
Knäckebrot, Schokolade and Pervitin were issued with warm soup.

Warm soup saves the day!

Troops enjoying warm food in sunshine!

Lunch break in tent area. Note weapons storage in snow.
